GEORGE A. HORTON

George Allen Horton, age 65, of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on February 23, 2021. George was born on May 26, 1955 to George Joseph and Mary Angelina Horton at Jefferson Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. George was the second of five children – Diane Salerno, Janice Franzino, Carolyn Calvert, and Jeffrey Horton. As a child, George was the favorite of his three sisters and mother. He was magnetic from an early age and always viewed the positives of everything in life.  George starred as a running back and safety at Abraham Lincoln High School, receiving all-city honors and earning a scholarship to Lees McCrae College in Boone, North Carolina. Lees McCrae, a Baptist college located in a dry county, was not prepared for a wild, city boy from Philadelphia. George left Lees McCrae after two years and returned to Philadelphia where he began apprenticing as an electrician under his Uncle Richard.

George eventually moved to South Florida with his sister Diane and met the love of his life, Wendy McFall Horton, at the Wildflower Restaurant in Boca Raton in 1981. He also met his business partner, Tom Jones, with whom he would open Horton Jones Electrical Contractors in 1984. George and Tom would spend the next thirty-seven years growing their business and building a reputation in the community as the premier electrical contractors for the health care industry. Everyone with whom George worked loved and respected him, which is why he was so successful.

George found a home in South Florida where he and Wendy would create and raise four beautiful children – Christopher Horton, Chad Horton, Cameron Horton, and Cara Horton. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Of all his accomplishments in life, George would say his family – his wife, children, sisters, brother, nieces and nephews – were his greatest because through them he has left a lasting legacy. George could not wait to take the next step in his life, which was becoming a grandfather to Carter Horton, daughter of Chad and Christy Horton, and Penelope Horton, daughter of Christopher and Caitlin Horton.

George loved skiing, fishing, vacationing with his family, spending time in North Carolina, and coaching little league sports. George may to this day be the most decorated Boca Raton Little League manager of all time – winning an astonishing 9 championships over the years with Christopher, Chad and Cameron. Every friend of George’s children would tell the same story about George – how welcoming, loving, and fun he was. It could easily be said that he was a second father to many.

George’s personality was truly one of a kind. He would be the life of any party. Now, he is the life of the party in Heaven with his parents and other loved ones. George is survived by his wife, Wendy; children, Christopher (Caitlin), Chad (Christy), Cameron, and Cara (Michael); sisters, Diane (Dave), Janice (Michael), and Carolyn (Chris); brother, Jeff (Michelle),  grandchildren, Carter and Penelope; sister-in-laws, Amy (Jim) and Lynn (Tommy); brother-in-law, Michael (Heather); nieces, Claire, Parker (Colin), Georgia and Christina; and nephews, TJ, Nicholas (Jen), Preston (Layne), Connor, Pierce (Isabelle), Lex (Briana), Ryan and Mac.
